The All Hands/City Streets Haiti trip is going amazing. All Hands/us/all volunteers are in the process of;
-Building 4 schools/20 right now
-Benches/seats/shelves/tables for the classrooms in the schools
-10,000 biosand filtration units to provide clean drinking water for citizens. These units will be given away cost-free and remove 99% of disease causing bacteria from the water.
-A livelihoods project that is teaching business/financial management skills to families.
-Various other incredible things, too many to mention.
Haiti has unfortunately fallen into obscurity in many ways. Most people assume if they never hear about the country -assuming they have heard of it in the first place- that it is doing fine and everything is in it’s right place. It is indeed in desperate need of constant aide but before people toss it aside or turn their head I recommend;
-Finding a Haitian or a Haitian community in their neighbourhood and talking to them about what their country is like
-Booking a ticket to Haiti and coming to see for yourself
-Reading/learning about the country in general. Youtube is a great place to start.
This country has so much to offer and is exploding with life/excitement. I can personally attest that if you come here you will not leave unmoved in one way or another. Inspiring land…
Also, give money to www.hands.org, they’re doing a fantastic job.
Rick and I are doing an acoustic performance before we leave at Joe’s Bar next to the All Hands HQ and will post pictures/videos asap.
Rick and I are currently situated at the All Hands Volunteers home base in Leogane, Haiti. More to come!
